One Thing to Watch Out for When Using a Glass Tea Infuser Cup
I really like this type of glass tea infuser cup.
It is simple to use, easy to clean, and very convenient for everyday tea drinking.
But there is one thing you should watch out for.
Be careful when you turn the cup upside down and open the lid.
After you flip the cup to separate the tea from the leaves, some hot water may remain inside the lid or around the opening.
When you twist the lid open, that hot water can suddenly leak out—and it may land right on your hand.
That’s when you are most likely to get burned.
So here are three simple things I do to make it safer:
1. Use water below 100°C.
You don’t always need boiling water for everyday tea drinking. Using slightly cooler water gives you a little more time to react if hot water comes out unexpectedly.
2. Don’t fill the cup too much.
Leaving some space at the top can help reduce the chance of hot water reaching the lid when you turn the cup upside down.
3. Don’t tighten the lid all the way.
This is probably the simplest tip.
You don’t need to force the lid as tight as possible. Just stop before the very last bit of tightening.
You may be wondering:
“Won’t the cup leak if I don’t tighten the lid completely?”
In my experience, no—not if you’re using a reasonably well-made cup.
Modern manufacturing and sealing technology are quite good. With a decent-quality tea infuser cup, the lid should still seal properly without being tightened with maximum force.
Of course, this can vary from one cup to another, so always check your own cup for leaks before using it.
This doesn’t mean you should avoid this type of tea infuser cup.
Quite the opposite.
It’s one of the most convenient ways to make tea. You just need to be a little careful when flipping it over and opening the lid.
A small change in how you use it can make your everyday tea routine much safer.
